Route 1 Lane Closures Extend Evening of May 13, 2019
WHAT AND WHERE: MassDOT is closing one of three southbound lanes 24/7 and extending current northbound lane closures on Route 1 from the Tobin Bridge through the Chelsea Curves to the County Road Overpass.
WHEN: On Monday evening, May 13, 2019, crews will mobilize in preparation for southbound lane closures, which will be put in place on Tuesday morning, May 14, 2019.
WHY: To minimize the length of closures and construction, and reduce impacts like noise and night-work, for required maintenance and structural rehabilitation of Route 1 and the Tobin Bridge.
TRAVEL IMPACTS: Beginning Tuesday morning, May 14, 2019, drivers and MBTA bus passengers should plan for increased travel times on sections of Route 1 North and South, especially during peak hours. All on- and off-ramps will remain open at this time.
ALTERNATE TRAVEL OPTIONS funded by MassDOT and available throughout construction:
- Free inbound fares on the MBTA SL3 bus at all stops in Chelsea
- Additional Blue Line trains to increase ridership capacity
- With a CharlieCard, inbound and outbound travel on the Commuter Rail between Chelsea Station and North Station
